Welcome to our class blog page!!!

Welcome to our blog site. We will use this blog to share ideas with each other and to share with the world a view of our experiences and our lives at MICDS in Geometry class.

In my first blog post, I want to consider the use of social media both in your lives and in the classroom. The use of some types of social media, like email, the internet, and even blogs and wikis, has become prevalent in classrooms at all age levels around the world. More recent trends indicate an increased use of other social media tools such as Facebook, Twitter, and cell phones.

In order to gauge where the use of social media fits into your life, I would like you to post a comment answering the following questions:
1. Do you contribute regularly to a blog or wiki?

2. Do you have a Facebook account?

3. Do you have a Twitter account?

4. If you are a consumer of social media, which vehicle do you use more frequently to access the social media tools you use - your computer or your cell phone?

5. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one would you miss the most if your access to it was shut down? What would you miss?

6. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see having the most potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?

7. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see as having the least potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?

When you have addressed each of these questions in your comment, please do not forget to click on the "publish comment" button.

1. Do you contribute regularly to a blog or wiki?
No, I do not

2. Do you have a Facebook account?
Yes
3. Do you have a Twitter account?
Yes
4. If you are a consumer of social media, which vehicle do you use more frequently to access the social media tools you use - your computer or your cell phone?
My computer.
5. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one would you miss the most if your access to it was shut down? What would you miss?

I would most miss my cell phone, because I can call anyone easily and it also acts as a computer, so if I wanted to get onto facebook, I could do that on my phone.

6. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see having the most potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?
I think that my computer is definitely the tool that has the most potential to strengthen learning at school. I think this because I have an abundant amount of information at my fingertips, I can contribute in educational blogs such as this one, and I can also take notes and all other stuff like that

7. Of all the social media tools you utilize, which one do you see as having the least potential as a tool to strengthen, deepen, and make more meaningful the learning that already happens in your classes and in your school? How/why?
Probably my cell phone because it is not meant to be used as a school strengthening tool.

1. No, I do not contribute to a wiki or blog.

2. Yes I have Facebook account.

3. Yes, I have a Twitter account.

4. I use my computer most.

5. I would miss my phone because I text a lot.

6. The computer has the best chance to strengthen learning at school because one can do so many things on a computer. For example, you can contribute to blogs, textbooks can be on the computer which would save paper and money, and you can do homework more easily on the go.

7. My cell phone would not work as a learning tool at all because it is a distraction from learning and is just meant to call/text.

1. No.

2. Yes, I have a facebook account

3. Yes, I have a twiter account

4. I'd use my computer most

5. My computer because of all the things I can do with it.

6.My computer because there are so many possibilities that you can do with it, and its better to learn with than a phone.

7. The phone, the same possibilities with a computer are not given to you because a phone cannot support it, and it you have to pay for internet on a phone.

1) No, I do not contribute regularly to a blog.
2) No, I do not have a facebook account
3) No, I do not have a twitter account
4) I use my computer more often than my cell phone
5) I would miss my computer! I can listen to music, talk to my friends on Skype, do homework, etc. all on this beautiful little machine. I would miss out on so much of my life I didn't have access to my computer.
6) I think that television has more potential than people give it credit for. I don't know a single kid that doesn't enjoy learning by watching a video on the subject at hand. It makes it easier to learn when your getting pictures and music in addition to a narration on the subject. If its just a teacher talking, less information may be retained.
7) I think that the cell phone has the least amount of potential to assist learning. Although a great tool to use when connecting with people far away, there is no need for a cell phone when learning and generally, it is a huge distraction during homework (but to be honest, so is the computer)

--> My cell phone, it's mostly a distraction while I'm doing my homework. Most of the time it's extremely helpful, until I have to really concentrate. Between texts, calls, IM's and many other things I can get off task.
